TOPIC : WHAT GRACE IS NOT
Scripture: Acts 4: 33. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
Beloved, I welcome to another moment of encounter. Grace was the logo of the early church (Acts11:23)! It was so great that it was upon them all (Acts4:33)! But such great grace is lacking in our time because of some wrong teachings about grace.
The times we are in require we understand what grace is not because there are gospel teachers that are pushing the matter out of course.
1. Grace is not a license to sin:
Galatians 5: 13. For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
If you gain this understanding then you have mastered the art of walking in grace and still be in tune with God and finally make it to eternity with Him.
That we are in the era of grace and we have received grace is not a reason to live anyhow.
The grace we received is even like a teacher to us. Hear this :
Titus 2: 11. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12. Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts. Grace teaches us to live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world. If you don’t understand this, you may be abusing grace without knowing.
A good example is Samson, he was mightily engraced with power to deliver his people from the oppression of the Philistines, but he forgot the principle that guides the dispensing of grace and by so doing abused grace.
Samson would leave a harlot’s room after commiting immorality and still be demonstrating grace by removing the gates of a city and take it up hill(Jug.16:1-3).
He was jumping from one lap of a harlot to another, until he was trapped down by the one in Sorek, Delilah by name (Jug.16:4)! He ended up terminating his vision for life and loosing his life.
Beloved, that it has not yet back fired now does not mean God is approving your way of life that negates God’s character. A miracle is not an affirmation that grace is a liberty to sin!
2. Grace is not a ticket to laziness (1Thess. 3:10-12):
Grace is not given for Christians to be lazy! Our generation is full of lazy men and women who are not willing to do hard work! As a matter of fact we use grace as excuse for everything including our laziness.
Grace does not give room to be lazy because if you receive grace without hard work it will produce no meaningful results.
3. Grace is not a yardstick to be careless (Matt. 2:13-20):
That grace is covering you is not a yardstick to be careless!
Baby Jesus would have been killed by Herod if Joseph was careless with his dream. God showed a brother that he should not drive his car the following day because of a programmed accident.
Another sister was warned by the Holy Spirit not to enter a particular cab but she said within her ”I am cover by the blood of Jesus” and entered.
They drove her to an unknown destination and raped her, only to come and ask pastor where is the grace of God?
Pastor asked her did you hear a warning in your spirit that you should not enter this cab?
Then she realized it was all her fault. Don’t take the grace of God for granted. Imagine you know your car does not have brakes yet you are driving such a car!
4. Grace is not a permission for you to become a stumbling block (1Cor.8:4-13):
1 Corinthians 8: 9. But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
Don’t allow the life you are living be the reason for others to refuse coming to Jesus Christ. And don’t allow the grace you are enjoying be the reason some one is backslidden! You are the Bible the world is reading!
There are men /women looking up to you, don’t allow them to make a shipwreck of their faith because you are enjoying grace that is peculiar to you.
Remember hell is real and heaven is real, your choice today determines your place of eternity tomorrow.
Prayer points:
– Father thank you for your word to me today,
– Lord, I receive grace to walk circumspectly in Jesus name.
Prophetic Declaration :
– I prophesy you are delivered from the spirit of indiscipline and carelessness in the name of Jesus
– Your life rejects indolence and laziness in the name of Jesus
