Topic: How You Can Know Your Pastor
Author: Pastor Abraham David
And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.John 10:4-5 KJV
One of the things you need to do as a Christian which would help you make tremendous progress in life is to know your man of God, your pastor, because pastors are helpers of our destiny, so is your pastor.
Your pastor would help your destiny by constantly bringing you the word for the season from the Lord; the words of hope, faith, encouragement, power, confidence, direction, and guidance, which you need now for the next step and the next phase of your life, ministry, career, and business. This is the reason why you must make sure you know who your pastor is and submit to him so that you won’t fall into the hands of the wrong persons.
I want you to understand that everyone who is born again is a child of God, and every child of God is His sheep.
No sheep chooses his own shepherd, because the sheep doesn’t know what it means to have a shepherd and who the good shepherd is, it’s the one who owns the sheep who always chooses the best shepherd for his sheep. Jesus, the one who owns the sheep always chooses the perfect shepherd (pastor) for every one of His sheep, but each one of us has to know and identify who the person is who has been chosen by the Lord to pastor us.
The Bible says in John 10:4, “and when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him for they know his voice.” In every sheep, God put the ability to recognize the voice of his shepherd.
We do experience this with our domestic animals and pets: after staying with us for sometime, they know us and recognize our voices and follow us everywhere; but they don’t follow strangers because they do not recognize the voices of strangers. That means, every child of God can, and should be able to recognize the voice of his pastor.
As a child of God, there are many ways by which you can know your pastor, the first way which is also the best way by which you can know your pastor is to ask the Holy Spirit, and listen to Him tell you who He has chosen to pastor you, because only Him never makes mistakes.
The truth is, He always leads us to where our pastors are, and sometimes leads our pastors to where we are, but majority of Christians are not sensitive enough to recognize this because they do not follow the Holy Spirit, and do not allow Him lead them, so, many live carnally and take every pastor to be their pastor even when his messages are not improving them or help them know Christ better.
The second way by which you can know your pastor is by the witnessing of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit might not tell you specifically who your pastor is, but as your pastor speaks, or preach, the Holy Spirit would be speaking to you at the same time or sometimes after you are alone about what the pastor is saying, confirming the words, and witnessing to your spirit that what the pastor is saying is true and that you should take every of His word seriously. This won’t happen once, it would happen again and again to persuade you that the person is your pastor.
The third way you can know your pastor is through the answers he gives to the questions troubling your mind every time he speaks to you, and how he becomes aware of the situations you are going through even without you telling him about them.
Every time you are going through a difficult situation and lots of questions keep popping up in your mind, making you become worried and you come in contact with your pastor, without discussing the issues with him, you would hear him speaking by the Spirit addressing the problems and questions in your mind.
Caution: you have to be smart and sensitive to the Spirit so that you don’t get deceived by those who have familiar spirit because they could also talk to you revealing to you the things going on in your mind, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, you would identify them easily.
Apart from the three ways discussed above, there are many other ways by which you can know Your pastor which won’t be covered in today’s devotional.
#Prayer
Precious Father, I ask that you help me to relate perfectly with your words for me through your choice vessels which you have chosen for me, to always follow the guidance you are giving me through them so that I can keep progressing in life, in career, in ministry, and in business, in Jesus name. Amen.
