And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him…and shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears. Isaiah 11:2‭-‬3 KJV

One of the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Child of God is to make him or her of quick understanding. We see this demonstrated many times in the life and the ministry Jesus, how He acted differently on certain occasions, and how He judge things differently from the way people judge them, which left His detractors dumb founded most of the time.

A woman was brought to Jesus who was said to be caught in the very act of adultery, they expected Jesus to pass judgement on the woman and condemn her to death just the way the people who brought her had already condemn her to death, but Jesus thinks differently because He’s of quick understanding, and because He’s of quick understanding, He didn’t judge the woman base on what her accusers said, He focused on the will of God for the woman, and allowed the will of God to prevail against the desire of her accusers.

What does it mean to be of quick understanding? To know what it means, we would need to read our text in another english translation: in NIV it reads, “and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;” what is rendered, “of quick understanding” in the King James Version actually mean, “to delight in the fear of the LORD.” When you are of quick understanding, it means you have accurate understanding of God which now makes the fear of God your delight; this will make you desire nothing other than God’s perfect will: to think, talk, and to do God’s perfect will. The Holy Spirit living in Jesus made Him delight in the fear of the LORD, so He was always after doing the will of God no matter the cost, and as a result, He always judge right, He does not make any decision against God’s perfect will, He sees things the way the Father sees them, and judges according to the Father’s perfect will.

As a child of God, filled with the Holy Spirit, He will make you of quick understanding, making you delight in the fear of the Lord. When you are of quick understanding, your desire would always be, the Father’s perfect will: you would make decisions in line with His perfect will, see things as He sees them, and judge based on the truth of His word. Never make decision base on what you see and hear, always focus on what God wants. The Jews saw that woman as an adulteress who should be stoned to death, but Jesus saw in her, a woman who needs salvation, and saved her.

Prayer
Precious Father, thank you for the indwelling presence of your Spirit in me who makes me of quick understanding, and helps me to see things the way you see them, and judge according to your perfect will, praise be your name forevermore, in Jesus name. Amen.
