Topic: Do Not Labour For Perishable Things

We live today in a world where people labour, and spend all their time, energy, and resources on things that don’t last or don’t have lasting value; people labour to get money so that they can spend them on consumable things, and to them, that’s what life is all about, so they work round the clock to achieve goal, but is that what life is all about? Are we to continue living, pursuing things that don’t last; are we to keep labouring for the perishable things?
Perishable things are things that are liable to perish, things that are naturally subject to quick decomposition or decay, food is an example, the food we eat, and the things or materials we wear on our bodies. But Jesus said, _*”Do not labour for the food which perishes…;”*_
why? Because food is short-lived, it is naturally subject to quick decomposition or decay. When you eat it, it stays in your belly just for a short time, because it gets digested and the waste excreted out, that’s why it is perishable.
The food we are to labour for is the imperishable food; Jesus said, _*”Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life…”*_ There is a food that lasts forever, Jesus Himself is the one who gives this food. What this food which Jesus gives does actually is to give eternal life, and because it gives eternal life, it is not perishable; not subject to decay; it endures permanently.
In the CEV which is used for our scriptural text, it says, _”Don’t work for food that spoils.
Work for food that gives eternal life. The Son of Man will give you this food, because God the Father has given him the right to do so.”_ God has given Jesus the right to give the food that gives eternal life and endures forever; that means, whoever wants to eat the food that gives eternal life and lasts forever just needs to come to Jesus and request for it.
Stop labouring for physical food, they don’t last, that’s why God Himself prefers to supply all these perishable foods and things so that they don’t take our attentions away from the real thing that matter. Don’t live for material thing, live for things that matter, which endure forever.
Prayer
_Precious Father, I give you my life and my heart, I want my heart to seek you alone always, reveal yourself to me more and more so that I would stay in you always, and live for your purpose alone all the days of my life, in Jesus name. Amen._
